Napa Valley, CA earned its spot on the world wine map in 1976, when its wines beat top French bottles in a blind tasting known as the "Judgment of Paris." One drive through its sun-soaked vineyards shows why it's America's answer to Tuscany. The valley stretches about 30 miles and is home to more than 400 wineries, with small towns like Yountville and St. Helena lined with stone tasting rooms and farm-to-table restaurants that feel straight out of the Italian countryside. Tour the 107-room Castello di Amorosa, a castle winery built in 13th-century Tuscan style, ride the Napa Valley Wine Train on its roughly 36-mile round trip through the vineyards, or float above the vines in a sunrise hot-air balloon. All the romance of Tuscany, no passport required.
